This weekend, three thousand game changers will convene in my home city.
The World Domination Summit was started by Chris Guillebeau to bring together the dreamers, the lifestyle entrepreneurs, and the unconventional thinkers who are finding new ways to live life and make a difference with the new world of digital technology.
It’s a lot like the meeting of avatars in the Matrix.
We have these online personas that do all these badass things on our blogs and social media platforms, and then we unplug, and meet in Zion to bump fists and break world records.
What Is World Domination?
You don’t have to live your life the way other people expect you to.
Chris’s Brief Guide to World Domination is meant for “a small minority of people interested in living life on their own terms while making a dramatic, positive difference in the lives of others at the same time.”
In short, World Domination is a mastery of the Art of Non-Conformity.
Classifying digital nomads and game-changers this way is a bit of a mouthful, but nobody else has managed to find the succinct punchy phrasing that would make people say, “I want to be a part of that guild!” For now, World Domination is the best terminology we have.
Some of the attendees are people who are trying to figure out how to make their own move into World Domination, and are ready to make serious changes in their life.
Some people have already made it, and are living unconventional lifestyles around the world doing work that they enjoy.
The World Domination Summit is our guild.
What’s Happening at WDS
I’m really looking forward to the talks by Danielle LaPorte and Jonathan Fields. I’ve been a big fan of their blogs for a while, and seeing my heroes in person is one of the reasons I want to attend.
There are also all sorts of peripheral activities. WDS has a great mobile app that lets users create and promote their own events. I’m hosting a couple – Outsourcers Anonymous and the PDX QR Scavenger Hunt – as well as a happy hour for all my Portland friends to come and clink glasses with me while I’m in town.
I will also be back in America for Independence Day. It’s kind of appropriate that my first time back in my home country in two years is for it’s birthday party.
I’m also looking forward to re-visiting everything I love about Portland.

How you go about describing the “World Domination Summit” really grabbed my attention. Words like “nomads,” “game changers,” and “domination” really call to mind two distinct and different groups of people than those meeting up with you. These include guys who are really into video games. Think World of Warcraft. They immerse themselves into a different world, change the game, and can ultimate dominate the universe therein. Thinking of social media in this way is actually really beneficial for me.
Alternatively, you also call to mind the thoughts of original punk rockers from way back when. Often nomadic, these artists were out for change in society. And a select few artists really dominated the charts. Again, the idea here that a few guys working through social media can leave an imprint on the business world (and maybe more) because of what they are doing with their blogs and other business exploits is interesting to say the least.
Anyways, I just wanted to chime in here with those comparisons. I think they may be useful to some of your readers as we start to see how these “digital nomads” just might impact the world in a huge way. Look forward to more updates from you!
